Bio-ethanol and bio-diesel are new and dynamic industry sectors that are developing rapidly but with a host of challenges across the many business facets from initial project selection through to actual profitable operations.

Whilst many of the issues are typical of large scale petro-chemical developments, the “bio” aspects bring their own unique challenges such as feed-stock sourcing, margin management and large scale solids handling.

Dr Alan Keasey, the senior partner in this bespoke consultancy, has over 27 years direct experience in the petro-chemical business with BP in posts ranging from Business Manager in the global commodity chemicals sector to Research Manager for BP Chemicals in the UK. The last major role within BP was in Trinidad, responsible for completion of construction, commissioning and start-up of Atlas Methanol, at 1.8 million tons per annum, the world’s largest plant. The last 2 years has been directly involved in the bio-diesel sector as Technical and Operations Director for Biofuels Corporation on Teesside in the UK.

Consequently, Biofuels Technology is well placed to offer practical, realistic advice and evaluations of prospective or developing projects in the biofuels sector.
